Pro-Clinton Cabinet Member to Immigrants: Your First Act as a Citizen Should Be to Vote

Obama administration Secretary of Labor Tom Perez, a Hillary Clinton supporter, is encouraging newly naturalized immigrants to get to the polls.

Perez spoke at a naturalization ceremony Tuesday in which he explained that people’s “first act as a citizen” should be to vote.

“As one of you also said, it means I can go and participate in elections, and I hope you will do that, because I hope you will go and vote, because people gave their lives, in some cases, for the right to vote. It is most sacred, and you will have that opportunity to do so in November, and your first act as a citizen, I would recommend is to go and register to vote,” Perez said.
