Black pro-life leaders are mourning the death of a Michigan mother and her baby who died following the mother’s abortion at a Planned Parenthood abortion facility.
Cree Erwin, 24, of Battle Creek, Michigan underwent an abortion at the Kalamazoo Planned Parenthood clinic on June 30 and died on July 3 hours after she presented for medical treatment at a local emergency room with complaints of complications from an abortion, reports pro-life organization Operation Rescue. An abortionist – Laura Denise Castleman – is confirmed by the pro-life group to have provided Erwin with a prescription for pain medication, though it remains unclear if Castleman actually performed Erwin’s abortion.
“Castleman’s Drug Control Location License for the Kalamazoo Planned Parenthood lapsed on January 31, 2016,” reports Operation Rescue. “In Michigan, medical providers must obtain a Drug Control Location License for every facility where they routinely dispense drugs.”
Evangelist Dr. Alveda King, who has just announced the launch of a new website at Priests for Life called “Civil Rights for the Unborn,” grieved the death of Cree and her unborn baby in a blog post.
“Mounting grief over yet more abortion deaths – this time of Michigan mother Cree Erwin and baby – overshadows our news,” King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., writes. “Black leaders and prolife leaders at large are outraged and grieved that yet another young beautiful Black woman and her baby have recently succumbed to painful deaths following an abortion at a Planned Parenthood facility.”
Other pro-life black leaders shared their grief in statements in King’s post. Pastor Clennard Childress, cofounder of L.E.A.R.N., said:
Black Life Matters has [recently] teamed up with the most destructive racist machine in American history; its founder, Margaret Sanger was the most devout racist of her time! The leading killer of innocent unarmed African Americans in the womb – whose hands were up, but given no choice or chance at the American Dream their fellow African American, Dr. Martin Luther King preached about – is Planned Parenthood!
Another L.E.A.R.N. co-founder – Dr. Johnny Hunter – grieved, “It breaks my heart that when a young man is gunned down by a [police officer], the media runs with it like wildfire. Yet, if an abortionist kills a young black woman and baby, the silence is tragic.”
“While we mourn with the family of Cree Erwin, we are compelled to sound the alarm about the growing ranks of women and infants killed, or reproductively maimed in a Planned Parenthood,” said Catherine Davis, founding core member for the National Black Pro-Life Coalition.
Davis added:
The number of women leaving a Planned Parenthood in an ambulance amid allegations of harvesting baby body parts reminds us of two things: Planned Parenthood’s population control mission and their unfettered greed. Both must be stopped in their tracks before one more vibrant young woman loses her life.
Lynn Mills of Pro-Life Detroit said the Kalamazoo Planned Parenthood facility has been able to fly “under the radar” despite prior incidents of substandard medical care.
“Planned Parenthood of Kalamazoo, under the leadership of Lori Carpentier, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Michigan, has a history of not functioning within basic medical standards and flying under the radar with the apparent cooperation of the State of Michigan,” Mills said, explaining:
The Kalamazoo Planned Parenthood continued to operate without a proper facility license from September 2012, until January 2016. How does the State of Michigan let this happen? I’m calling for Carpentier to first make a public apology to the family of Cree Erwin, and then step down from her position. Immediately!
The unveiling of King’s new website was timed to coincide with the 53rd anniversary of her uncle’s “I have a Dream” speech.
“At Civil Rights for the Unborn, we stress that a child in the womb is a separate and unique individual who has the same inalienable right to life as all of us,” King says on the website.
“But we also care about the mothers who feel driven to abortion by personal circumstances,” she adds. “We hope to reach moms before they make the irrevocable choice to abort their children, and we also want to contact mothers who have already bought the abortion lie and are suffering as a result, as I did for many years.”
As various Tweets show, Planned Parenthood has joined with members of Black Lives Matter and other black-led social justice groups to link together the abortion business’s issue of abortion rights to that of voter disenfranchisement and other issues tied to racism. The strategy – promoted by its allies in the media – allows Planned Parenthood to appear concerned about “civil rights” issues even though the group’s founder Margaret Sanger was a eugenicist.
Newsbusters observed this week, for example, that MSNBC’s Joy Reid shouted down Alfonso Aguilar, president of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, after he noted Sanger’s involvement in the eugenicist movement.
“Planned Parenthood is not a eugenicist organization!” Reid exclaimed loudly on AM Joy, “I think that is incredibly offensive.”
When Aguilar pointed out that Hillary Clinton is an admirer of Margaret Sanger, Reid reacted, “Alfonso, eh, with all due respect, Margaret Sanger is dead and not running the Hillary Clinton campaign.”
