President Barack Obama will speak to the media this afternoon in Louisiana, delivering a statement on camera after he visits the flood damage and speaks to local officials and victims.
The president’s media strategy is strikingly different than the one employed by Donald Trump, who closed his visit to the press.
Some members of the media filtered through, however, taping Trump and his running mate Mike Pence unloading a truck of supplies for flood victims. The media also interviewed flood victims who indicated that they were grateful for his visit.
But Obama will address the press directly to explain why he decided to visit the disaster location and will likely promise to assist the areas recovery efforts.
It is expected he won’t take questions from reporters.
