Green Candidate Jill Stein Announces Ajamu Baraka as VP

Ajamu Baraka

Green presidential candidate Jill Stein announced that she has selected Ajamu Baraka as her Vice Presidential choice Monday night on Twitter.

The announcement comes ahead of the Green Party convention in Houston Texas starting on Thursday, where Stein is expected to be named the Green’s presidential candidate for the second time. Stein was the Green candidate in 2012.

Stein described Baraka in a statement on her website, which is good because Baraka doesn’t even have a large enough public profile to warrant a Wikipedia page.

“I am honored and excited to announce that my running mate in the 2016 presidential election will be Ajamu Baraka, activist, writer, intellectual and organizer with a powerful voice, vision, and lifelong commitment to building true political revolution,”

Stein compares the unknown Baraka to Martin Luther King Jr. in the announcement and notes that he’s been on CNN and the Tavis Smiley Show! “Ajamu’s life’s work has embodied the immortal words of Dr. Martin Luther King.”

Stein also addressed rumors that she would select popular Bernie Sanders’supporter Ohio State Senator Nina Turner.

“I especially appreciate Senator Turner’s willingness to have discussed the VP position. The fit just wasn’t right, as Senator Turner is still committed to try to save the soul of the Democratic Party. While we may not agree on whether that is possible, I respect her passion to fight for the people and wish her the best in her effort.”
