President Barack Obama continued to implicitly criticize Donald Trump today, complaining that he and the Republican party were talking down the American military.
“As commander in chief, I’m pretty tired of some folks trash talking America’s military and troops,” he said during a speech to the National Convention of Disabled American Veterans.
He defended the smaller military force under his administration, calling it “natural” that the military would shrink after two wars.
Obama also spoke up for Gold Star families, joining the throngs of Democrats and Republicans who have been berating Donald Trump for reacting to the Kahn family who launched a public attack against him.
“No one has given more for our freedom and security than our Gold Star families,” Obama said, reminding Americans that they “made the sacrifice that most of us cannot even begin to imagine.”
Obama explained that he specifically chose a Gold Star family to introduce him at the Democratic National Convention because he honored their service.
“They represented the very best of our country. They continue to inspire us every day, every moment,” he said. “They serve as a powerful reminder of the strength of America and we have to do everything we can for those families and honor them and be humbled by them.”
