President Barack Obama set the record straight regarding his late night snacking habits, after the New York Times reported that he ate seven almonds for a snack when he was working late.
“Michelle and I would always joke: Not six. Not eight,” Obama’s former chef Sam Kass said in the story. “Always seven almonds.”
In an interview with Today show host Savannah Guthrie, Obama admitted that his friends called him up to make fun of him after the article was published.
“All my friends were calling me up and saying, ‘This seems a little anal, this is kind of weird,’” he said, pointing out that the Times article made it appear as if he was counting out his almonds every night.
Obama said that one night, Michelle Obama and Kass were teasing him about his diet discipline trying to “drive home the point that I needed to loosen up a little bit.”
Guthrie went over her allotted time to ask the president about his almond eating habits, an issue Obama was happy to clear up.
“Almonds are a good snack though, I strongly recommend it,” Obama added.
