During his July 27 speech at the Democrat National Convention, gun control proponent Mark Kelly described the absence of new gun laws as one of America’s “greatest moral failures.”

Mark Kelly has been campaigning to require a background check for every would-be gun purchaser ever since his wife, Gabby Giffords, was attacked by a man who passed a background check to acquire his firearm. Giffords’s attacker — Jared Loughner — passed a background check for the Glock he used to attack innocents in Tucson on January 8, 2011.

Speaking to the DNC, Kelly lamented the failure to secure more gun control, calling it “one of the greatest moral failures here on our soil.” And he assured convention attendees that Hillary Clinton will secure the gun control he and his wife have been pursuing.

Kelly said:

We have to do better — and Hillary knows we can. Hillary knows that we save lives by doing more to keep guns out of the wrong hands. We know that as president she’ll do the responsible thing; She’ll stand up to the Washington gun lobby that works to protect the shameful status quo.

He did not explain how requiring the background check passed by Loughner, the Orlando gunman, and the Aurora movie theater gunman will somehow alleviate gun violence.
