Republican nominee Donald Trump railed against his rival Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton over the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal, after Clinton’s friend Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe suggested Clinton will pass the TPP after she is elected president in November.
“She lied about TPP,” Trump stated of the former secretary of state, adding that she has said she wants to renegotiate trade deals after Trump declared he would do that with the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which President Bill Clinton passed.
“So, all of a sudden she goes against TPP,” the New Yorker said of Clinton’s flip-flop on the TPP during her primary campaign, as she had previously helped negotiate the deal.
“Her vice president is one of the biggest proponents of TPP,” he added of Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA). “They will go for TPP and vote it in very shortly after the election if she wins, which for the sake of our country…I hope she doesn’t.”
“She saw me talking about TPP, she realized she couldn’t defend it,” he declared, saying Clinton is “bought and sold by the special interests.”
“They’re pushing her very hard,” he stressed.
The Trump campaign also released a statement about McAuliffe’s suggestion on Tuesday that Clinton will pass the TPP once she is elected in November, despite being against the trade agreement during her campaign.
“While Clinton continues to pander to Sanders supporters, her true intentions have never been clearer. She will support her global corporate donors who want cheap labor, and foreign governments who want to provide jobs to their citizens at the expense of Americans,” the Trump campaign’s press release read.
“I worry that if we don’t do TPP, at some point China’s going to break the rules — but Hillary understands this,” McAuliffe stated after his speech at the Democratic National Convention. “Once the election’s over, and we sit down on trade, people understand a couple things we want to fix on it but going forward we got to build a global economy.”
