Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump’s campaign announced on Monday the expansion of its communications team with the hiring of Bryan Lanza and Steven Cheung.
As the Trump campaign’s deputy communications director, Lanza will mobilize Trump’s surrogates to effectively spread his message to voters.
Lanza previously worked as the communications director for Citizens United, a non-profit conservative research organization. He also has experience as chief of staff for California State Assembly members.
Lanza’s hire comes after Kevin Kellems, who served as the campaign’s director for Trump’s surrogates, resigned after working for the campaign less than a month, referring to it as an “interesting experience.”
The Trump campaign also hired Steven Cheung, who will serve as the campaign’s rapid response director. The campaign’s press release states Cheung will keep “the campaign up to date on breaking news and pushing back on false or unbalanced reporting.”
Cheung recently worked as the director of communications and public affairs with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He has experience working on a number of gubernatorial and Senate campaigns in addition to Sen. John McCain and Sarah Palin’s 2008 presidential campaign.
