House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) took to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday morning after Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) spoke about the ambush attack on law enforcement officers in Dallas, Texas Thursday night.
“The ambush and murder of police officers during a peaceful protest is a tragedy that tears at the heart of every American,” Pelosi stated, agreeing with Ryan “that episodes like this must not harden our divisions, but unify us as a country.”
“Many questions have yet to be answered, but whatever the motivation of the perpetrators of this horrible crime, it is clear that those perpetrators of this vile act have an agenda of evil,” she added.
Pelosi echoed President Obama and Speaker Ryan’s call for justice. “Justice will be done. Justice must be done.”
She also echoed the Mayor of Dallas, stressing, “We must get to the root causes of what happened last night.” Pelosi then recognized Alton Sterling and Philander Castile – two black men who were shot by police earlier in the week.
She stressed the need “to get the facts and the root causes of what caused these tragedies.”
