Republicans and Conservatives Assail FBI’s Decision Not to Indict Hillary Clinton

Comey Statement PBS

In the wake of FBI director James Comey’s announcement that Hillary Clinton potentially violated classified information laws but will inexplicably not face federal charges, Republican and conservative lawmakers and groups are scrambling to express their bewilderment and discontent with the decision.

Here are some statements from heavyweights calling for “handcuffs” and other things:

Judicial Watch (Non-partisan transparency group that obtained many Clinton emails)

“FBI Director James Comey detailed Hillary Clinton’s massive destruction of government records and grossly negligent handling of classified information.  Frankly, there’s a disconnect between Comey’s devastating findings and his weak recommendation not to prosecute Hillary Clinton.  Federal prosecutors, independent of politics, need to consider whether to pursue the potential violations of law confirmed by the FBI,” Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton said.

American Crossroads (Karl Rove’s group)

“Just because Hillary Clinton is not going to jail doesn’t mean she should go to the White House. What the FBI confirmed today is that every material statement Hillary Clinton has made about the email scandal has been proven false. Clinton recklessly exposed national security information and assets to hostile powers, and that disqualifies her from having the integrity and judgment to be our nation’s Commander-in-Chief,” stated American Crossroads president Steven Law.

Arizona Senate candidate Kelli Ward (John McCain’s primary challenger)

“Hillary’s reckless disregard for national security information deserves handcuffs,” Ward said, “not a slap on the wrist. Anyone else would have been indicted already. Bill Clinton and Loretta Lynch must have had a very substantive discussion of grandchildren and golf during their chance encounter on the runway here in Phoenix.”

“However, since the decision has been made, it is time for Republicans to further make the case against Hillary by fighting her long record of bad ideas with better ones.”

Tennessee Rep. Diane Black

“Today’s remarks by FBI Director James Comey make clear that Hillary Clinton lied about her emails and highlights just how far she went to conceal her communications from the American public,” Black stated. She continued:

Secretary Clinton previously claimed that she did not send or receive ‘any material that was marked or designated classified’ yet the FBI investigation found that 110 emails sent or received on Clinton’s server contained classified information at the time the messages were transmitted. The FBI investigation further found that Clinton and her staff were ‘extremely careless’ in their email use and that ‘hostile actors’ may have accessed her communications. For many Americans, this is a bad case of déjà vu, as it reminds us of the countless scandals that have marked the Clintons’ decades in politics and that are sure to continue if she is elected President. If we cannot trust Hillary Clinton with a BlackBerry, we certainly cannot trust her with the Oval Office. This is among the many reasons why I have endorsed Donald J. Trump and will work to ensure that he defeats Hillary Clinton this November.
