Police in Kansas City, Kansas, have arrested a man and charged him with placing an ad on Craigslist offering a two-year-old girl for sex.
Authorities in Wyandotte County arrested Zachary Taylor Garrett, 22, after he was allegedly observed trying to sell the toddler to undercover officers.
The investigation entailed surveillance in two states, with the first suspicions of the man’s activities originating in Springfield, Missouri, officials said.
Garrett was charged with attempted rape of a child under 14, as well as aggravated endangerment of a child, and indecent liberties with a child.
Bond was set at $500,000, and he is still awaiting a court date.
Advertisements for sex continue to appear on the popular online classified ad site, despite its claims to clean up its system.
Recently, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart criticized the site in a press conference in Chicago.
“It makes me wonder, do they really think I’m sort of stupid, some bobblehead who will think they changed it?” Sheriff Dart said. “They seem to insist on being cute and playing games (and) it’s getting old.”
Dart has sued the San Francisco-based company, calling it the nation’s largest platform for selling sex services.
