Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump recalled his uphill battle with delegates in Colorado during the GOP primary and took a swipe at “Never Trump” Republicans while speaking at the Western Conservative Summit in Denver, Colorado on Friday.
Trump spoke in the Centennial State after a sweep during the GOP primary election, where nearly all of the Colorado delegates were slated for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) through Colorado’s caucus process.
“I learned a lot because polls came out. I was going to win Colorado,” the billionaire recalled about the Colorado delegate process as well as learning about politics throughout the primary election. “And then all of a sudden, I didn’t get the delegates.”
“That was an amazing week” Trump stated, adding that he’s a “quick learner,” and saying he thinks the Colorado GOP will hold a vote next year.
“It’s rigged against the people,” Trump said about the political system. “We did have problems here because there wasn’t a vote.”
“It all worked out well,” he added. “In the end, it doesn’t matter.”
During his speech, Trump also took a swipe at “Never Trump” Republicans, saying they don’t understand the importance of a Republican winning in November, citing the appointment of possibly many Supreme Court justices, whom Trump says will “uphold the Constitution of the United States.”
Trump touted his endorsement from the NRA and his support with evangelicals during his speech and also thanked Gov. Sarah Palin, who endorsed Trump earlier during the GOP primary election and also spoke prior to him at the summit.
“She liked what I was saying,” Trump explained about Palin’s endorsement. “When Sarah came out for me … that was a big event.”
Trump also commented on the recent terrorist attack in Israel.
“There was a horrible killing,” he stated, referencing Israel. “What’s going on now is unbelievable.”
“We’re going to do safe zones in Syria,” Trump explained, saying he has a big heart in reference to the refugees. “The Gulf states have a lot of money,” he added, saying they can help pay for the safe zones.
Trump vowed to repeal and replace Obamacare after discussing how he recently saw the top three issues for voters are: economy, terrorism, and healthcare.
The presumptive Republican nominee added that he is going to eliminate job killing regulations and lower taxes as well as simplify the tax code.
Trump referenced the Rasmussen poll published on Thursday, which showed him leading presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton by four points.
“We’re going to do very well,” Trump said. “We have the right message.”
“I think the message is getting stronger.”
