Voters say presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump is more capable of handling the U.S. economy, even though presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton leads Trump by five points in a new general election Morning Consult poll.
Forty-four percent of registered voters surveyed said they prefer Clinton over Trump, while 39 percent said they favor Trump.
Clinton improved her poll numbers by three points since the previous Morning Consult poll, and Trump lost ground with Independent voters, according to the survey results.
The poll also found that although Clinton leads Trump by five points, most voters thought Trump would be better for wealth and growing the economy.
Forty-five percent of the voters surveyed said they think Trump will grow the economy, but only 38 percent said they thought Clinton could grow the economy.
Forty-three percent of voters said Trump will do more to create jobs than Clinton’s 38 percent.
When asked who will help boost the stock market, 46 percent said Trump while 32 percent said Clinton.
The Morning Consult survey came from 1,998 voters across the country on June 24-27. Its margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.
