Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump’s first fundraising email ended up in supporters’ “spam” folders and as a result, reached less than half of the intended recipients.
“Data from email tracking firm Return Path shows 60 percent of Trump’s fundraising emails were kicked into recipients’ spam folders, according to a report from Ad Age. Only 12 percent of recipients opened the email and six percent deleted it without even opening it,” Politico reports. “By comparison, Return Path’s data showed other emails from the Trump campaign are sent to spam folders at an eight percent rate, considered high relative to other email marketing.”
The increased spam rate is believed to have been caused by a domain change.
Trump’s campaign spokesperson Hope Hicks said the first fundraising email sent on Tuesday resulted in donations totaling $3.3 million within the first 24-hours and $3.4 million in donations came in on Wednesday.
