A man who was once a suspect in the 1996 murder of Colorado 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey has just been arrested on child pornography charges, authorities say.
Gary Oliva, 52, was arrested by Boulder, Colorado, police after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children informed them that he may be in possession of child porn.
After his arrest, police alleged that Oliva had downloaded 22 sexually explicit images of children less than 10 years of age. Officials have now charged him with two counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a child and one count of sexual exploitation of a child. All three charges are felonies.
Oliva is now being held on a $10,000 bond.
After 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey was murdered in 1996, police investigated Oliva under suspicion that he was nearby on the night the child was murdered.
In a further investigation in the year 2000, Oliva was found with photos of JonBenet and at that time he admitted to having a fascination with her.
Even to this day, Oliva has not been ruled out as the possible killer of the 6-year-old. Sarah Huntley, a spokeswoman for the City of Boulder, told KMGH, “We haven’t ruled him in or out in connection with the Ramsey case.”
“We certainly understand the interest in Mr. Oliva both in connection with the new charges and his possible connection in the past,” Huntley added.
