During the June 19 airing of Face the Nation, the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre complimented Donald Trump’s post-Orlando push against terrorists rather than guns.
LaPierre said, “You know, Donald Trump, as far as I know, he wants to attack criminals, he wants to protect the law-abiding, and he wants to attack ISIS and get the bad guys. And that’s where we are.”
As Breitbart News reported, Trump wants to do what he can to keep terrorists away from guns, but he believes the situation has to be approached carefully to protect the rights of law-abiding Americans.
On the other hand, President Obama and Senate Democrats want to immediately add the terror watch lists, and related lists, to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System’s list of prohibited buyers. Such a move would inevitably deny due process protections to law-abiding citizens who have been accidentally included on such lists. It would also suspend Second Amendment rights of people who have been accused–but not convicted–of terrorist ties or criminal activity.
