Rush Limbaugh: ‘A Gun-Free Zone Is a Red Flag to a Bull’

Limbaugh AOK

During the June 17 airing of the Rush Limbaugh Show, Limbaugh used rhetorical questions to drive home the point that “a gun-free zone is a red flag to a bull.”

Limbaugh made this point live on-air, in response to a caller named “Rich,” who said:

[The Pulse nightclub] was a gun-free zone because the state of Florida in its infinite wisdom–lack of wisdom in this case–actually has a law on the books that makes it illegal carry a weapon of any kind into a bar, essentially. And that was really tantamount to allowing this massacre to occur, because here in Florida there are 1.4 million people who have weapons carry permits–that’s one of every 10 adults walking around loose. Since there were 300 people in the club, if we use that rough figure 1-in-10, there would have been 30 people with weapons in that club to oppose Mateen, had they been permitted to carry their weapons into the club.

Limbaugh posited that gun-free zones “are self-defeating.” He explained that schools are designated “gun-free zones” to make the parents feel better, yet the gun-free status does not apply to criminals.
