White House press secretary Josh Earnest confirmed reports that President Barack Obama hasn’t called Republican governor of Florida Rick Scott after the terrorist attack at a gay club in Orlando, Florida on Sunday.
Scott indicated on Fox and Friends this morning that he had received a call from Donald Trump and from former President George W. Bush since the attacks.
Earnest said that “senior White House officials” had been in touch with Governor Scott and that Obama had called Orlando mayor Buddy Dyer.
He added that if Scott wanted to see Obama, he would have the opportunity to meet him when the president arrives in Florida at the airport during his visit to Orlando on Thursday.
“As we always do, we will invite the governor to be a part of the president’s arrival,” Obama said. “And hopefully, the president will have the opportunity to see Governor Scott there.”
Later Earnest added that “hopefully” Scott would be there to greet Obama.
