Failed California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman compared Republican nominee Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler at Mitt Romney’s exclusive #NeverTrump retreat in the Utah mountains, where she suggested that she will be supporting Hillary Clinton for president.
Romney is hosting an exclusive getaway — billed as his “Experts and Enthusiasts,” or “E2,” summit — at the Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley in Park City, Utah. The retreat, hosting about 300 spurned establishment Republicans, has already made some headlines for complaints that the attendees have made there about Trump. Failed presidential candidate Romney accused Trump of helping “trickle-down racism” to enter American life.
Whitman, who lost the governor’s mansion in 2010 to Democrat Jerry Brown, joined Romney at his Utah safe space. Whitman reportedly asked other attendees, “Is it not reasonable to support Hillary Clinton?” although she stopped short of formally endorsing Clinton before the party conventions.
Whitman also reportedly compared Trump to Adolf Hitler.
The dwindling #NeverTrump movement, comprised of establishment consultants, pundits, and activists, has been in a tailspin since Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol was unable to find a suitable third-party challenger to enter the race. Even obscure National Review writer David French rejected Kristol’s effort to get him to run. Kristol met with Romney about a possible third-party run, but Romney evidently is not joining the race.
