Obama: It’s Up to Bernie Sanders to Decide Future of Campaign

President Barack Obama believes that it’s up to Sen. Bernie Sanders to decide the future of his campaign, according to the White House.

“At this point the president believes that Senator Sanders has more than earned the right to make his own decision about the course of his campaign and the president is certainly respectful of that,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said during a conversation with reporters on Air Force One this afternoon.

Sanders is meeting with Obama on Thursday at the White House before making a decision about his campaign. Earnest confirmed that Obama would be unlikely to endorse a Democratic candidate before the meeting.

Earnest confirmed that the president found Clinton’s speech to be “historic” last night.

“We were talking on the helicopter about the powerful speech that Secretary Clinton delivered last night. It was a historic moment,” Earnest said. “The president was struck by the historic nature of last night’s speech.”

The president is traveling to New York City for a series of DNC fundraisers and a taping of the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
