House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi is endorsing Hillary Clinton before the California primary, revealing that she voted for the former Secretary of State in her home state.
“It’s wonderful that she’s a woman,” Pelosi said in an interview with Good Morning America’s George Stephanopoulos. “It’s fabulous that we would have a woman president and I believe she will walk into that Oval Office one of the best prepared people to do so in our country’s history, however, it’s because she is the best, not because she’s a woman.”
During the interview Stephanopoulos asked Pelosi if she wanted to see Elizabeth Warren on the ticket, making even more history for women going into the election.
“We’ve had two men over and over again for hundreds of years,” Pelosi replied. “I think that two women, whoever they may be, that would be fabulous as well but Hillary Clinton will choose the person that she feels most comfortable with.”
Pelosi was careful to say that the race would not be “over until it’s over” until all Californians had voted Tuesday during the primary. But her statement in support for Hillary appeared aimed at pressuring her opponent Bernie Sanders out the race.
“I congratulate and thank Senator Bernie Sanders for the great invigoration he is bringing to the presidential primary, and welcome the political and intellectual participation of his supporters to advance our shared fight for progress for the American people,” she said.
