America Rising, a conservative political action committee (PAC), is shedding light on audio of Sen. Jon Tester, chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), as he appears to question whether or not the country is ready for two female leaders should likely Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton pick Sen. Elizabeth Warren as her vice president.
WNYC/PRI reporter Todd Zwillich posted audio of Tester, where it appears Tester suggests the country isn’t ready for two women when Zwillich brings up the possibility of Warren on Clinton’s ticket.
“Well, I don’t know. Is the country ready for two women? I don’t know. You know? I don’t know,” Tester questions.
The transcript of the audio is as follows:
REPORTER: There is all the traditional speculation around VP candidates, a couple of them are senators. Harry Reid has made his views known that he wouldn’t want viable Democratic senators plucked out of the senate, can you, can you just give me your thinking?
TESTER: I’m a big Sherrod Brown fan, I say it in somewhat jokingly way but truth is that Sherrod and I are good friends and it has a Republican governor in the state of Ohio so it probably wouldn’t be good for the body, but I think he would bring a nice mix to the ticket.
REPORTER: And Warren?
TESTER: Well, I don’t know. Is the country ready for two women? I don’t know. You know? I don’t know.
“Chairman Tester appears to be living in 1916, not 2016. By openly questioning whether America is ‘ready’ for women on the presidential ticket, he has completely undermined the Democratic Party’s cynical use of gender politics to drive a wedge among the electorate,” America Rising PAC press secretary Amelia Chassé stated.
Secretary Clinton and every Democrat senate candidate who has received support from Chairman Tester’s DSCC will have to answer for his offensive statement. If they do not repudiate his rhetoric, they will expose the Democratic Party as the party of hypocrisy and double standards.
Tester’s hesitation on whether or not the country is ready for two female leaders comes as Clinton stated it’s emotional that she is approaching history being the first female nominee from either political party.
“I do think that it will make a very big difference for a father or a mother to be able to look at their daughter just like they can look at their son and say, ‘You can be anything you want to be in this country, including president of the United States,” Clinton stated.
Clinton has embraced her sex on the campaign trail, presenting a pink woman’s card on her website for supporters.
“I know we have never done this before. We’ve never have had a woman president,” Clinton stated Saturday while campaigning in California.
That is why I want you to understand, that I have spent eight year in the Senate on the Armed Services Committee, four years as secretary of state. I have spent a lot of hours in the Situation Room working to solve some of the hardest problems we face. And I know how hard this job is and how much humility you need to have and how you should actually listen to people who have good ideas.
Breitbart News reached out to Tester’s office for comment on the released audio, but has not yet received a response.
