New Jersey senator Cory Booker believes that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is one of the most qualified people ever to run for president and one of the greatest Secretary of States of all time.
“[Y]ou have one of the most qualified people ever running for office running for president of the United States,” Booker said during a rally with Hillary Clinton in New Jersey this afternoon. He also credited Clinton for being “one of the greatest Secretary of States this nation has ever had,” citing even Republicans who agreed with him.
The event was held at the Golden Dome Athletic Center at Rutgers University Student Health in Newark.
Booker argued that Clinton had also “taken more attacks from the right wing in the history of this country” throughout her lifetime.
The New Jersey senator shouted his speech in support for Clinton, straining his voice as he urged residents to vote for Clinton.
He accused Trump of behaving un-presidential and called him one of the “least presidential persons that had ever been put up for office.” He recalled presidential speeches from Lincoln, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Thomas Jefferson and compared their words to Trump’s rhetoric.
“The issues that we hear Donald Trump talking about are so contrary to who we are as a nation,” he said. “They are an affront and an insult to our higher angels and our best selves.”
Booker rallied with New Jersey native and rock star Bon Jovi, referring to him as the “patron saint of New Jersey.”
At one point in the speech, Booker tried a humorous riff off of one of Bon Jovi’s famous songs.
“I hate to contradict Bon Jovi, but Hillary Clinton, you give love a good name,” he said.
