Cheryl Mills, a former top aide to Hillary Clinton, is trying to block the audio and video release of her upcoming deposition in a Clinton email lawsuit.
Mills is set to be deposed Friday in the civil case filed by the nonprofit transparency group Judicial Watch. Mills has already been interrogated by the FBI in a session in which she temporarily left the room to convene with her attorney.
Nevertheless, Mills’ legal team has already conceded the issue over the release of a transcript of her deposition. It will be one of multiple transcript releases from the case that could compel the FBI to recommend indictment against Hillary Clinton or her aides Huma Abedin or Mills.
According to a filing made Wednesday on Mills’ behalf:
As counsel for non-party deponent Cheryl Mills, we respectfully ask the Court, pursuant to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 26(c)(1), to preclude Judicial Watch from publicizing all or any portion of any audiovisual recording made of Ms. Mills’ upcoming deposition.
Ms. Mills supports the release of the written transcript of her deposition to the public. But no additional public interest would be served by the publication of the audiovisual recording. To the contrary, as her counsel,we are concerned that snippets or soundbites of the deposition may be publicized in a way that exploits Ms. Mills’ image and voice in an unfair and misleading manner.
