On May 12 an appeals court upheld the ruling of lower court that denied Rahman Idlett a concealed carry license based on his driving record.
Idlett lives in Middlesex County, New Jersey.
Although Idlett “works for a private security firm,” the court ruled that allowing him to carry a gun was “against the interest of the public health, safety and welfare.”
According to the AP, a judge in the case said Idlett has “one of the worst driving records” he has ever seen.
The judge noted that “Idlett’s license was suspended 15 times in the 15 years that he’s been driving.” The judge also noted that Idlett “received 16 speeding tickets, two careless driving citations and other charges.”
NJ 101.5 notes that the appellate explained their ruling, saying, “The statutory design is to prevent firearms from coming into the hands of persons likely to pose a danger to the public.”
