A Florida man was arrested Monday and is facing charges for allegedly attempting to steal a snake from a Saint Petersburg pet store.

Pinellas County deputies said the suspect, identified as Travis Treder, walked into an Animal House Pet Center and stuffed a baby python down his pants.

Employees of the pet center saw Treder attempting to steal the snake and tried to stop him from leaving the building. Police say Treder shoved a pet store worker to the ground.

Pet store staff were, eventually, able to restrain the suspect, pinning him to the ground and tying him up with zip ties until police arrived on scene.

The python is worth $149 dollars, the pet store owner said. It is unclear what the man’s motives for stealing the snake were.

Treder’s charges include petty theft and resisting a merchant.
