J. Hogan Gidley, former senior communications adviser to Gov. Mike Huckabee, tells Breitbart News Daily SiriusXM host Stephen K. Bannon the GOP should line up behind presumptive nominee Donald Trump.
On the heels of Sen. Ted Cruz ending his campaign, Gidley says, “I think it’s definitely a Republican Party divided. That’s what campaigns do, they divide folks. But at the end, you have to unite behind something.”
“The people who supported Ted Cruz consistently said it’s a time for choosing. We’ll lose the Supreme Court for a generation. Hillary Clinton is the worst thing that could happen to this country. Well, all that stuff’s still true, even if Donald Trump’s the nominee and Ted Cruz isn’t,” he continued.
Gidley went on to point out that America continues to face significant challenges and Hillary Clinton still represents the same Leftist policies Barack Obama has used to do some much damage to the nation over the past several years.
The big choices we face are still staring us right back in the face, saying, guys, it’s time to make a decision for this country. I understand Ted Cruz isn’t leading the ticket but Hillary Clinton still looms large over this country and the damage she can do with the extension of the horrible policies of Barack Obama, economically, military, internationally. We’ve got to have somebody in there who understands and can fight against Hillary Clinton. And we have to be re-united to do that.
Gidley also made the point that all politicians change their positions somewhat over time and if people see Trump as “malleable,” then the thing to do is “get onboard” and support him and work to guide or pressure the candidate in the right direction.
Get in there and be a voice for him because he doesn’t succumb to big donors. He doesn’t have them. He has just the rank and file folks. He’s not beholden to Washington because he doesn’t take their money. So, you, the voter for the first time in generations actually have a voice in what a candidate will do on the campaign trail because he’s not beholden to the special interests in Washington, D.C. He’s only beholden to you because you put him here.
