Former President Bill Clinton campaigned for his wife Hillary in Louisville, Kentucky, visiting a soul food restaurant and delivering a speech at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage.
“I am glad to be in the home neighborhood of a man who became my friend about 20 years ago this year, Muhammad Ali,” Clinton said, after showing up two hours late for the speech.
Clinton visited voters at a coffee shop and served fried chicken and took selfies with patrons of Franco’s Restaurant.
He spent the afternoon with former senatorial candidate and Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, who lost her challenge to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in 2014.
Both Bill Clinton and Hillary campaigned for Grimes, but her long shot bid was ultimately unsuccessful.
The irony of Clinton’s campaign activity was noted by Saturday Morning Solutions, a weekly black radio show.
