GOP frontrunner Donald Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) campaign chairman Chad Sweet both joined Breitbart News Daily on SiriusXM Patriot Radio 125 with guest host Matthew Boyle, and in separate interviews called for unification of the Republican Party; however, Lewandowski encouraged unity now, while Sweet suggested unity should come post-primaries.
“The more we fight among ourselves, whether that’s with Ted Cruz or John Kasich, the less energy we can focus on fighting the real person, the real enemy here, which is Hillary Clinton and the Democratic machine,” Lewandowski told Boyle on Saturday morning. “So, I would recommend, I would encourage, I would ask respectfully Senator Cruz, John Kasich, come join the Trump train. The tain is rolling down the tracks.” He went on:
We want you. We want to build the party. We want to grow the party. We want to put everybody together. We want to be a unified messenger and we want to make sure we keep our eyes squarely on the prize, which is winning the November election.
Sweet later told Boyle the party should unify at the end of the primaries, behind whoever wins the nomination, whether it’s Trump or Cruz.
Commenting on the increased voters in the Republican primaries, Sweet said, “If we don’t win it, we need to unite behind Trump and vice versa. If they don’t win it, they need to unite [around] us. We can win this. We can absolutely turn out the larger number of voters, the data is with us.”
“Both Trump, as well as our supporters, recognize that we need change in Washington,” Sweet told Boyle. “I would respectfully ask those who are listening that are Trump supporters to think about the following or, if you’re considering Trump versus Cruz, who has actually proven to be a fighter of the system versus who has been historically part of the system?”
Breitbart News Saturday airs on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on SiriusXM Patriot Channel 125.
