When SiriusXM host Stephen K. Bannon asked on Breitbart News Daily whether Ted Cruz’s pick of Carly Fiorina as his potential running mate was a “smart move,” Breitbart News legal editor Ken Klukowski answered that because of the corporate CEO’s years of work with the CIA, “Between economic and domestic policy and these foreign matters, Carly Fiorina actually brings a full deck of cards to the table, and people have been talking about her for a while as a potential vice-presidential pick.”
Bannon was discussing Cruz’s selecting Fiorina during Thursday’s show. Klukowski explained that for months, national leaders in foreign policy and national defense from previous administrations had being saying good things about Fiorina, not because of any insight they had into her tenure at the helm of global technology giant Hewlett Packard, but instead because of the two years she served as the chairwoman of the External Advisory Board of the Central Intelligence Agency. During this time, from 2007 to 2009, Fiorina was involved in delicate intelligence activities and foreign-policy matters.
Klukowski elaborated that in addition to Fiorina’s “business acumen and economic policy knowledge”:
The reality is in D.C., in national-security circles, Carly Fiorina is well-respected. She worked for years on an advisory committee to the Intelligence Community, and evidently from some generals and admirals and people affiliated with the CIA and other Intelligence Community organs that I’ve spoken to over the past year, they’ve known her for years. They’ve been impressed with her, and her knowledge and grasp of world affairs and defense matters.
Although Bannon and Klukowski did not have time to discuss other possible reasons for Cruz’s picking Fiorina, Klukowski was also prepared to discuss how several veterans of previous presidential campaigns are noting that, despite Fiorina’s loss to Barbara Boxer for the U.S. Senate in heavily Democratic California, that Fiorina is regarded as having a very formidable grassroots network on the ground in California that could immensely benefit Cruz in the upcoming Golden State primary on June 7.
There is not yet any polling data on whether Fiorina will also energize Cruz’s efforts in Indiana’s May 3 primary, which has become one of the most important contests in this election cycle, though early reactions from the Hoosier State might suggest that picking Fiorina is receiving a favorable response from Hoosier primary voters. Political operatives in Indiana tell Breitbart News that the Texas senator already had a robust and well-organized ground game statewide.
Calling the selection of Fiorina an “aggressive” move, Klukowski concluded, “I think that this was on many levels smart. No doubt the timetable was influenced by just the reality of the political game. But a lot of people I’ve been talking to in Washington D.C., and who have known her for years, said that they saw this coming.”
Breitbart News Daily airs on SiriusXM Patriot 125 weekdays from 6 AM to 9 AM EST.
