Nicholas Johnston writes in Bloomberg Politics:
Donald Trump “is in a category with George Wallace, Joe McCarthy and Huey Long,” former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers says at an event in Washington.
- Called a Trump presidency “profoundly dangerous,” says it would break with American political traditions, “We haven’t had a president who encouraged violence against their opponents, we haven’t had presidents who threatened to take money from newspapers who wrote things they didn’t like.”
- Does not think Trump will be elected, but “that he can command so much support is I think a measure of the fact that there are very serious and unaddressed concerns in our society.”
- NOTE: Summers served as Treasury secretary for President Clinton, director of National Economic Council for President Obama.
