The wife of fallen Howard County Deputy Carl Koontz shared a picture of their eight-month-old son wearing Koontz’s badge.
Maybe to lighten the mood a little with this handsome little man! He is wearing his daddy’s badge with pride!

On Monday, a suspect shot Deputy Koontz when he attempted “to serve arrest and search warrants for possession of a syringe.” Medics rushed him to IU Health Methodist Hospital, where he later passed away.
“When officers knocked on the door by announcing their presence, they received no response. Upon entry the officers were confronted by gunfire and the officers returned fire,” explained Howard County Sheriff Steve Rogers. “A Russiaville officer and other deputies were able to extract the officers and provide first aid.”
Koontz is the first deputy killed in the line of fire in the county in 46 years.
SWAT arrived on the scene and tried to talk to the suspect for almost two hours. They finally entered the home, but found him dead.
Medics said Evan Dorsey, 25, died from a “self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.”
