GOP frontrunner Donald Trump and rival Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) sparred on Twitter Tuesday night over a campaign ad directed against Trump that showed a partially nude photo of his wife, Melania, taken during an old G.Q. photo shoot.
Trump posted, “Lyin’ Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin’ Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!”
Cruz quickly responded to Trump, posting, “Pic of your wife not from us. Donald, if you try to attack Heidi, you’re more of a coward than I thought. #classless”
The ad, which sparked the exchange, contained a partially nude photo of Melania with the caption, “Meet Melania Trump, your next First Lady. Or you could vote for Ted Cruz on Tuesday.”
Shortly after Trump took to Twitter to slam Cruz for the ad, Liz Mair, a co-founder of an anti-Trump super PAC, defended Cruz, tweeting, “Hi Donald, I know you’re really upset about that ad, but it was Make America Awesome’s, not Ted Cruz’s.”
**UPDATE**
Trump responded on Wednesday morning to Cruz’s denial of having anything to do with the ad using a partially nude photo of Melania.
“Lyin’ Ted Cruz denied that he had anything to do with the G.Q. model photo post of Melania. That’s why we call him Lyin’ Ted!” Trump posted on Twitter Wednesday morning.
