On March 20, Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety tweeted praise for Star Wars’ Mark Hamill over his recent comments in support of gun control.
Hamill played Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars film.
Everytown’s tweet thanked Hamill for speaking out and quoted him:
Hamill’s tweet overlooks the fact that school shootings happen in gun-free school zones, which are settings with a complete ban on gun possession–settings with 100 percent gun control.
This is not the first time Hamill has pushed gun control. In August 2015, shortly after Vester Lee Flanagan shot and killed Virginia reporter Alison Parker in an on-air attack, Hamill emerged praising Parker’s dad for undertaking a gun control campaign. Hamill tweeted:
Australia’s response to the Port Arthur attack was a mandatory gun buyback scheme that resulted in the confiscation of approximately 650,000 weapons. On October 16, Hillary Clinton suggested such a confiscatory plan was “worth looking at” for gun policy in America. On October 3, President Obama also expressed support for such an approach to gun policy.
As with all gun control, only the law-abiding citizen would comply, which means a confiscation plan would take away the guns of the innocent, while allowing the criminal to remain armed.
