Donald Trump has been declared the winner of the North Carolina Republican primary Tuesday night.
Fox News called it for Trump shortly after 9:30 PM. As of press time, Trump was leading Ted Cruz 40.2 to 36.3 percent with 45 percent of the precincts reporting.
Trump adds North Carolina to his trophy shelf from Tuesday night’s results. Trump won big in Florida, where his chief rival there, Marco Rubio, dropped out of the race after finishing second.
Trump was leading Cruz in Illinois and Missouri as of press time.
Trump, however, suffered an important loss to John Kasich in Ohio. Kasich now says he has the momentum to hold Trump to less than a majority share of delegates, perhaps allowing a contested convention in his home-state city of Cleveland, Ohio.
