President Obama welcomed recently elected Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to the White House today, but couldn’t resist a little trash-talking about Canada’s favorite sport.
“There are some things we will probably never agree on: Whose beer is better. Who’s better at hockey,” Obama said during the opening ceremonies.
“Don’t get me started,” Trudeau replied.
“Where’s the Stanley Cup right now?” Obama quipped as the audience reacted.
“I’m sorry. Is it in my hometown with the Chicago Blackhawks?” he asked. “In case you were wondering. In case you Canadians were wondering, where is it?”
This is the first time in nearly 20 years that the White House has welcomed a Canadian Prime Minister with an official state visit.
“It’s about time, eh?” he joked.
During his speech Obama commented on the different personalities of the citizens of both nations.
“Our Canadian friends can be more reserved, more easygoing,” he said. “We Americans can be a little louder, more boisterous.”
