Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) went after rival Donald Trump for donating money to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
“Donald Trump has written checks to Hillary Clinton not once, not twice, not three times — 10 times. And four of those checks were not to her Senate campaign,” Cruz said at the Fox News debate Thursday night in Detroit, Michigan.
Cruz also attacked Trump for supporting Jimmy Carter over Ronald Reagan, John Kerry over George W. Bush, and Democratic members of Congress.
Trump argued that “it was for business” and added that he also supported Reagan and Bush financially.
Cruz pressed Trump on how he could, in light of these contributions, debate Clinton if he becomes the Republican nominees. Trump then argued that he is the best person to face Clinton.
“The last person that Hillary Clinton wants to face is Donald Trump—that I can tell you,” Trump replied.
