Professor of Philosophy and Christian Practice at Union Theological Seminary and Professor Emeritus at Princeton University Dr. Cornel West argued that Democratic presidential candidate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is attempting to be “fake and phony” by referencing Jim Crow policies while talking about voting laws and that Obama’s presidency has merely provided “symbol” for Black America when asked if Black America was better off under Obama on Wednesday’s “Hannity” on the Fox News Channel.
West said that Hillary’s references to Jim Crow policies are “her attempt to be fake and phony, and try to mobilize people who want her to vote.”
He further added, “I think that Donald Trump himself is a dangerous neo-fascist in the making.”
West later said, “But the sad moment is this, we’ve got, on the one hand, a milquetoast neo-liberal, in Hillary Clinton. … Tied to Wall Street, tied to big money, then we’ve got a dangerous neo-fascist with –. The only way out is the genuine populism of my dear brother [Democratic presidential candidate Senator] Bernie Sanders (I-VT).” West later added, building a wall on the southern border was “wrong.”
He later predicted that the black vote wouldn’t go to Trump because “Trump scapegoats the vulnerable too much, precious Mexicans, Muslims, women. You can’t get away with that. But on the other hand, I can say this, Hillary doesn’t have enough gas in her tank, and that’s what — the only person who can beat Trump is Bernie Sanders.”
When asked, “[I]s Black America better under Obama? No. It’s not better under social liberal policies.” He stated, “But you know what it has though? Symbol. You see, large numbers of black brothers and sisters are tied to symbol.” He added that symbol doesn’t produce actual results and that he has tried to get beyond symbol and into substance.
