On February 29, the Mississippi House passed a measure barring enforcement of new federal gun controls in the state and Governor Phil Bryant (R) quickly urged the Senate to follow suit.
The bill–HB 782–prohibits “state enforcement of any future federal act relating to personal firearms, firearm accessories or ammunition.”
According to 7 WDAM, the bill was held in the House until Tuesday due to a “motion to reconsider” that was later tabled.
After the motion was out of the way, Governor Bryant called on the Mississippi Senate to pass the measure and made clear that he has already determined to sign it. Bryant said, “States must do their part to protect the Second Amendment. As long as I am governor, Mississippi will answer that call. I’m grateful for the House’s commitment to Mississippians’ right to keep and bear arms. I hope the Senate will follow the House’s lead and send this bill to my desk so I can sign it.”
Breitbart News previously reported that an Arizona Senate panel voted to nullify President Obama’s gun control in their state on February 16. Prior to that, efforts to nullify the enforcement of new federal gun controls were under way in Kentucky and Ohio. Now Mississippi can be added to the list.
