GOP frontrunner Donald Trump won Arkansas on Super Tuesday, a state where he was neck and neck in the polls with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
KATV and the Associated Press declared Trump the winner at roughly 35 percent of the vote. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) took second place with 28 percent, while Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) rounded out third place with 25 percent.
Fox News projected Hillary Clinton was the clear winner in Arkansas over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) on the Democrat side just after the polls closed on Tuesday evening.
Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson said that if Trump were to be the nominee, he would support him.
“I think he has conducted himself in a way that doesn’t reflect the seriousness of our times, and the tough issues that face America,” Hutchinson said about Trump on Tuesday to Talk Business & Politics.
“I don’t see anybody getting out right now,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s daughter said on KATV, Little Rock’s ABC affiliate, analyzing the race as results were tallied. Sanders joined Trump’s campaign as a senior advisor after her father suspended his campaign in February. She explained that if Trump wins Florida, she believes it would be hard for other candidates to stay in the race.
“I think Cruz, Rubio certainly keep on plugging,” analyst Rex Nelson predicted, joining Sanders in election coverage on KATV.
Fox News reported Trump spent $1.1 million, much less than both Rubio and Cruz in Super Tuesday states, but was able to win more states than any Republican nominee has in the past, according to the Washington Post.
