Republican presidential hopeful and Texas Ted Cruz is “cruzzz’in” through the Lone Star State with Texas Governor Greg Abbott and former Governor Rick Perry on Monday. Both have endorsed their fellow Texan and Cruz is looking for a big win in the state.
The spin through Texas comes just one day before the Super Tuesday primary. Cruz is planning stops in Dallas at 10:00 a.m. and will be in San Antonio for a rally with the governors at 2:00 p.m. He will end up in Houston for an 8:30 p.m. rally.
Breitbart Texas attended a rally last week before the GOP presidential debate in Houston when Cruz greeted a thousand supporters. Governor Greg Abbott introduced him and gave him a rousing endorsement, as reported by Breitbart Texas.
Breitbart Texas’ Bob Price had reported earlier that day that the popular Texas governor had endorsed his former employee. The Texas senator served as Abbott’s solicitor general in the Office of the Texas Attorney General when Abbott was attorney general.
During the Harris County Republican Party Lincoln-Reagan dinner on Wednesday in Houston, Abbott echoed the urgency and the fragile state of freedom, as reported by Breitbart Texas. Abbott repeated the message he told supporters at the rally earlier in the day and said the country was at a crossroads. He said the nation needs a president that can lead the nation down the right path. Both Cruz and Abbott referenced, as did Ronald Reagan, that Americans were just one generation away from losing their freedom. Cruz told the over thousand Republicans gathered that he has fought for them and would continue to do so. He said, “What the media wants is for us to just give up.” He said they want us to believe that “There is nothing to be done.”
Cruz went through the cases he defended for the state as Texas’ solicitor general. He said he fought for “One Nation Under God” and for the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. He said he has fought against amnesty, and stood for pro-life issues, for traditional marriage and religious liberty.
He told those at the GOP dinner that on his first day as president he would rescind “every illegal and unconstitutional executive action” taken by President Obama. He also said he would direct the Department of Justice to investigate and prosecute “any and all criminal violations” of Planned Parenthood. He would also instruct the DOJ and the IRS to cease the persecution of religious liberties. Cruz promised to “shred” the “catastrophic Iranian deal.” The Texas senator said he would also nominate a principled justice to the U.S. Supreme Court to replace Justice Antonin Scalia. He warned that the country was “one justice away” from a “radical 5 justice majority.” The presidential hopeful said we need someone who will defend our Constitution “for our children, and our children’s children.”
When averaged, polls in Texas have Cruz winning the Lone Star State by 34.0 percent to New York businessman’s Donald Trump 26.8 percent, as reported by Breitbart Texas. Marco Rubio has an average among these polls of 18.2 percent, Kasich is at 7 percent, and Carson is at 5.4 percent.
The last survey among the five Republican Primary polls in the Real Clear Politics polls, the Monmouth poll, has Cruz far ahead with 38 percent in Texas. Trump and Rubio are in a battle for second place with Trump at 23 percent, and Rubio at 21 percent. Monmouth has Kasich and Carson far behind at 5 and 6 percent respectively.
Among those polled by Monmouth, Cruz has 54 percent support among “very conservative” voters, and 37 percent support among “somewhat conservative” voters. While the Texas senator has only 10 percent support among moderates, the poll says that this group comprises just one-fifth of likely GOP voters.
The Monmouth poll reports that 44 percent of early voters in Texas who were polled (18 percent) checked Cruz’ name on their ballots. Of those that had not yet voted, 30 percent of likely Republican voters said they were completely decided on their candidate choice. Another 30 percent had a strong preference but were open to considering other candidates.
The Austin American-Statesman poll for the Republican Primary also has Cruz at 38 percent in Texas. It polled Donald Trump at 26 percent.
Governor Abbott told Breitbart Texas in the spin room after the Republican presidential debate in Houston that Tuesday would be “Super Cruzday” in Texas. Abbott also thought Cruz would do well in other states during the Super Tuesday election.
Cruz will hold his election night watch party in Stafford, Texas, right outside of Houston. Supporters are gathering at radio talk host Michael Berry’s Redneck Country Club at 7:00 p.m. The event is free.
