In light of the discussion of whether or not President Obama should nominate someone for the Supreme Court in 2016, I share with you these words of wisdom from a former Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee:
“The President should consider following the practices of a majority of his predecessors and not name a nominee until after the November election has been completed. The Senate Judiciary committee should seriously consider not scheduling confirmation hearings on the nomination until after the political campaign season is over. Once the political season is under way, action on a Supreme Court nomination must be put off until after the election campaign is over. That’s what’s fair for the nominee and essential to the process. Otherwise, we will be in deep trouble as an institution.”
– Senator Joe Biden, 1992
On this question, I couldn’t agree more with the Vice President. The last thing the American people need right now is a bloody, drawn out political battle over the late Justice Antonin Scalia’s successor. Citizens United and our 500,000 members nationwide believe this process should begin in 2017 and not a minute before.
Why not start the “advise and consent” process now? President Obama has already poisoned the process by telling the mainstream media to ignore precedent and shame Republicans in the Senate into moving forward. We’ve seen this story before; the tactics of Saul Alinsky have begun. Because after all, Obama was taught by his leftist mentor to never let a crisis go to waste.
Earlier this week Obama’s team leaked that RINO Governor Brian Sandoval of Nevada was being considered for the pick and then in a highly orchestrated manner, Senator Harry Reid announced that he would support this so-called consensus choice. For the past seven years, Obama and Reid have refused to level with the American people because in reality they are brutally partisan cynics. The Sandoval trial balloon was nothing but more petty manipulation and silly gamesmanship; the precise kind of behavior that has created the Donald Trump anti-establishment phenomenon.
There are very few trophies that conservatives can point to when they look at the past seven years. Taking back the House and the Senate are two, but to what end? This is when the GOP leadership can show grassroots conservatives that they have the ability to listen. If the GOP Congress does not hold strong on this all-important issue, they should expect the voter revolt to continue. It could very well spell the end of the modern Republican Party as we know it.
The lines have been drawn. Sens. McConnell and Grassley and the rest of the Senate GOP caucus must stand resolute – because the heat in the kitchen is about to get turned up by Obama-Clinton-Reid and their band of Alinskyites.
This is the fight of a generation. DO NOT BUDGE!!!
