Rafael Cruz tells Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon the Supreme Court is one of the most important issues in this election.
“With the passing of Justice Antonin Scalia, the Supreme Court is in the balance. We need to make sure we elect someone that we can be confident that will appoint only constructionist justices, justices that will abide by the Constitution and the rule of law and not legislate from the bench. That is Ted Cruz,” his father says on Breitbart News Daily.
“Constructionist” refers to “originalist” justices, who interpret the Constitution and all laws according to the original public meaning of their words.
Rafael continued, “Ted Cruz has been working not only in the Supreme Court with [Chief Justice] William Rehnquist, but also defending case after case, on the Second Amendment, on the right to life, on a series of issues at the Supreme Court, and winning on U.S. sovereignty.”
These were references to Ted Cruz serving as a law clerk in 1996 to the former chief justice of the United States, then as a top lawyer arguing cases before the Supreme Court. Cruz’s groundbreaking victories protecting the Second Amendment (District of Columbia v. Heller, 2008), religious liberty (Van Orden v. Perry, 2005), banning partial-birth abortion (Gonzales v. Carhart, 2007), defending the Pledge of Allegiance (Elk Grove United School District v. Newdow, 2004), and Texas’s asserting of American sovereign against the United Nations and World Court (Medellin v. Texas, 2008).
“It is imperative that we elect a president that will appoint [constitutional conservative] justices,” Rafael repeated. “If we appoint another liberal justice, we will lose those freedoms,” Rafael concluded, insisting that Ted Cruz is the candidate most focused on originalist justices and with the knowledge and skill to appoint the right justices, and urging listeners to vote for Ted Cruz.
