After her anti-cop, politically charged Super Bowl halftime show, members of the New York Police Department are now demanding an apology from pop singer Beyoncé for her controversial performance.
According to the gossip site TMZ.com, a representative of the NYPD is demanding the singer come forward and definitively state that her song, “Formation,” is not an attack on the police.
The site was told “cops are bitter and want her to publicly disavow violence or any other type of aggression toward police. While she’s at it, they’d also like an explanation as to what she really meant.”
The NYPD isn’t alone in its condemnation of Beyoncé’s performance. Cops in Florida, have already announced they will not work security at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium for Beyoncé’s April 29 concert, leaving stadium officials scrambling for replacement security.
Javier Ortiz, of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police, also noted the singer’s celebration of the criminal Black Panther gang is another reason to boycott her future work.
Ortiz wrote in a statement:
While Beyoncé physically saluted the 50th anniversary of the Black Panthers movement at the Super Bowl, I salute NYPD Officer Richard Rainey, who succumbed to his injuries on February 16, 2016 from being shot by two Black Panthers who he had pulled over in a traffic stop. I also salute the dozens of law enforcement officers that have been assassinated by members of the Black Panthers. We ask all law enforcement labor organizations to join our boycott across the country and to boycott all of her concerts.
During the performance, signs were featured, reading, “Justice 4 Mario Woods.” But as Breitbart’s Lee Stranahan noted, soon after the Super Bowl, no one was holding signs for the victims of Mario Woods.
Police departments aren’t the only ones attacking the singer for her halftime show. Among the many critics of Beyoncé’s Super Bowl performance was Canadian comedian Owen Benjamin who called her choreography a “KKK dance routine.”
Benjamin posted a now deleted tweet criticizing Beyoncé, saying, “I really really hope Beyonce fans google ‘who were the black panthers.’ Never support her again. She basically just did a KKK dance routine.”
