Pollster and president of the Ted Cruz-aligned Super PAC “Keep the Promise,” Kellyanne Conway told Breitbart News Daily host Stephen K. Bannon on Sirius XM that while her own internal polling shows Trump will win the South Carolina primary, the media will spin any Marco Rubio finish as a victory while ignoring Cruz.
“The Rubio people are pushing — I should warn your listeners that they’re pushing the same narrative of the ‘Rubio surge,’ [and] that he’s now going to get second over Ted,” she said. “I’ve met some mainstream media journalists these last couple days who are calling me as a Cruz SuperPAC person and saying, ‘Do you see these things in your data? Do you believe it?’ Because they’re tired of being fed this.”
Conway added that the Rubio backers are also pushing a narrative of Trump versus Rubio: “‘If you give me a man on man fight, I’ll beat Trump!’ There is absolutely no evidence that is true. Marco Rubio’s two major premises: That he can beat Hillary, and all of these other people are beating Hillary in the polls, so that’s been blown apart, and that he’s a smooth-talking, generational figure — we saw that he laid an egg on the debate stage, came in fifth in New Hampshire. Can he rebound in South Carolina? Fine. But why does everybody take a third place showing in Iowa by Rubio… as real victory? When it comes to Rubio, bronze is the new gold.”
“Ted Cruz won Iowa!” she said. “He came in third in New Hampshire, the most secular state in the country, and everyone forgot about it.”
Conway also said that Ted Cruz will carry on beyond Super Tuesday and her SuperPAC, “Keep The Promise,” will invest $2 million in Nevada before that state’s caucuses.
A CNN/ORC poll shows Trump leading the pack with 38 percent, Cruz in second at 22 percent, and Rubio trailing at 14 percent among likely Republican voters in South Carolina. Another CNN/ORC poll taken in Nevada shows Trump with nearly double the support of his nearest rival, Rubio, 45 percent to 19 percent. Cruz comes in at 17 percent.
