A Fairborn, Ohio, police officer is on paid leave and his comments under investigation for posting “Love a Happy Ending” following the suicide of a Black Lives Matter organizer.
The officer, Lee Cyr, was commenting on the suicide of MarShawn McCarrel II, who shot and killed himself on the Ohio State House steps after allegedly urinating on them first.
According to the Daily Mail, Cyr is on paid leave because of the Facebook post and an investigation has been launched “to determine if [he] violated the department’s social media policy.”
McCarrel organized Black Lives Matter protests in Ohio in 2014, when Michael Brown was shot and killed after trying to take away Officer Darren Wilson’s gun. The protests were part of a wave of protests that took place across the country, claiming the officer was the aggressor and the unarmed Brown had his hands up asking Wilson not to shoot. But the narrative was fictional. A Department of Justice investigation revealed that the “hands up don’t shoot” narrative was created out of nothing, and witnesses who perpetuated it intimidated other witnesses into keeping their mouths shut rather than contradict the anti-cop rhetoric.
So false was the narrative that The Washington Post declared “Hands Up Don’t Shoot” one of “the biggest Pinocchios of 2015.”
Yet the damage was done. Disrespect of officers increased and harassment of officers became increasingly routine.
