At a campaign rally in the final hours before the New Hampshire primary former President Bill Clinton said “sometimes” he wishes he was not even married to the candidate, Hillary Clinton.
“Sometimes when I am on a stage like this, I wish that we weren’t married, then I could say what I really think,” Clinton said, according to NBC News.
“I don’t mean that in a negative way. I am happy,” Clinton added, after the uncomfortable soundbite.
Over the weekend, Bill Clinton attacked Sanders’ supporters for supposed “sexist” attacks and “vicious trolling.”
Clinton has been trailing in the New Hampshire polls behind democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). The Real Clear Politics polling average has the Vermont senator leading the former secretary of state by 13 percentage points as of Tuesday morning.
