Actress and feminist activist Jane Fonda accused Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump of driving young Muslims to participate in terrorism.
Speaking at the Women’s Equality and ERA Coalition’s “Night of Comedy” in New York City yesterday, the 78-year-old accused Trump of “fanning the flames of people’s anxieties and racism,” according to The New York Daily News.
“It’s terrible and it’s dangerous,” Fonda said of the Trump’s candidacy two days ahead of the New Hampshire primary.
“Even if he doesn’t make it which I don’t think he will, the fact that he’s said the things he’s said about Muslims for example, the damage has been done,” Fonda said. “All those young Muslims now can say, ‘Yeah I guess they really are waging a war against us.’”
“It will draw them closer to the terrorists. I think it’s really, really dangerous,” she concluded.
Fonda, who is supporting Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary, also spoke highly of socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders.
“I think he’s great,” Fonda said of Sanders. “He’s great at describing what one of the main problems is, which is wealth equality. She’s good at saying how we’re going to solve problems and she’s going to get it done.”
The Daily News reports feminist icon Gloria Steinem was also in attendance for the “Night of Comedy,” where she blasted GOP candidates Sen. Marco Rubio and Sen. Ted Cruz for being against women’s “reproductive rights.”
Fresh off an apology for telling HBO’s Bill Maher that young women are supporting Sanders over Clinton in order to be like the “boys,” the feminist leader said Trump is “less scary” than Rubio and Cruz “because he’s less likely to get elected and he seems to believe nothing.”
According to Steinem, Trump will “say anything whereas the other two really do believe that women should not have reproductive rights.”.
On Friday, Steinem told Maher young women are not turning out to vote for Clinton because “Men get more conservative because they gain power as they age, and women get more radical because they lose power as they age. So, it’s kind of not fair to measure most women by the standard of most men, because they’re going to get more activist as they grow older.”
Added the feminist: “When you’re young, you’re thinking, ‘Where are the boys? The boys are with Bernie.’”
