Massachusetts Governor Charles Baker and his Lt. Governor, Karyn Polito, announced on Friday that they are endorsing New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for President of the United States.
Baker said in a statement;
Right now, our country is in dire need of Governor Christie’s tested, and strong leadership. I’ve gotten to know Chris very well over the years and know he is the leader our nation needs in Washington. His solid record of getting results for the people of New Jersey while balancing every budget, cutting spending, vetoing more tax hikes than any Governor in American history, and creating over 230,000 private-sector jobs shows that he is ready to take on the serious challenges our next President will face.
Governor Baker added:
Governor Christie has led as a Republican governor with a Democratic legislature and with strong, unwavering leadership, he was able to achieve historic bipartisan reforms in his state. We need a leader like Chris who puts people over politics and a president who can make Congress do its job for the American people again.
Governor Christie said in a statement on his campaign website:
I am honored to receive the endorsement of my good friends Charlie Baker and Karyn Polito today. As fellow leaders in a blue state who have taken on tough challenges to get things done in Massachusetts, they understand the unique training a governor has to not only take the fight to Hillary Clinton in the fall, but most importantly to lead our country back from the disastrous policies of the Obama years. Their experience and voices will be incredibly important not just over the next four days, but through November.
While Christie was serving as chairman for the Republican Governors Association, he directed $11 million dollars towards Baker’s 2014 election campaign against Democratic opponent Martha Coakley.
Baker is the third governor to endorse Christie, following Gov. Larry Hogan of Maryland and Gov. Paul R. LePage of Maine.
Both governors attended Thursday night’s Bruce Springsteen concert at TD Garden, the Boston Globe reported.
New Hampshire Republican Primary polls published on Friday showed that Christie continues to struggle garnering support in The Granite State. The three polls released Friday had Christie obtaining between four and six percent of the vote, with the primary just days away.
Christie has devoted his efforts this week towards waging an intense campaign against establishment rival Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who the New Jersey governor has referred to as “the boy in the bubble” for being “constantly polished” speeches and alleged dodging of the press.
